Malvern Naturalist and Field Club was founded in 1852, by the Rev. William Simmonds, who had helped to establish the Woolhope Club in Hereford in 1851.

He then went on to found a club in his own home area and so our Malvern Club was born and meetings took place at the newly built Burrows family home on Belle View Terrace.

A quartet of Field Clubs-including the Cotswold, the Worcester, the Woolhope (Hereford), and the Malvern were all set up between 1846 and 1852 and they were connected by the friends of Darwin and men of science and learning of the time. Leading botanists and geologists were honorary members, and included Sir Charles Hastings of the Medical Association and the Hookers, - father and son, who founded Kew Gardens..

They had indoor meetings in the wintertime, and about 5 rambles in the summer for up to 30 members so that they could study and record natural history out of doors..

Our Day Trips, Holidays and Welly Club outings originated from the spirit and purpose of those early members, and we try to explore the natural world in our own changing programme. (See Programme, Day Trips, Holidays and Welly Club.)
